TL; DR – This is the next film you should watch.
Over the last week I’ve been seeing raving reviews for another Malayalam film on my feed, Bramayugam. And peppered in between those were few shots of Premalu. One of them even stated this to be the Indian #Barbenheimer :D.
Scrolling past them, I thought from an industry that is best known to give feel-good films, this would be another average joe. Mind you, I do not mean that in a bad way. It’s just feel-good has become my baseline expectation from my neighbours in the south. But, I was wrong.
(Psst.. maybe I am biased towards this film, but this is my blog and I get to write whatever I want. And any exaggeration from my part should’nt diminish how good this film is)

We’re all in the same boat.
Done with engineering, Sachin’s trying to get to the UK to proceed with highers. Why? Because he’s got no clue what he wants in life and decided to jump on the bandwagon and go with the flow with his friends. Oh, he was also rejected by this girl he liked for four years. And his visa gets rejected and so he decides to move to Hyderabad and enroll in GATE coaching because another friend decided to do it.
Whew! Not gonna lie, this shit was already relatable (to an extent) and I was already sold on the film. Then we get our first glimpse at Reenu. And she stole the show from that point!
One for the boys.
Boy sees girl, falls head over heels and tries to woo her. By just just being there for her (not simping at that!). And Amal Davis proved at every need, why he’s a friend indeed. Pretty much a template film, but that does not take away anything. I am not sure how to put it words but in pretty much every scene in the film is imbued with magic! (I am learning by the moment that I am definitely not qualified to write / review this genre of movies.)

No reason to stay is a good enough reason to leave.
This was established very early in the film and I knew I was being setup for sorrow later on. Relentless, I rooted for Sachin through out his journey. This film is entirely Sachin’s story and the phases he goes through. Without giving away too much, what I’ll say is we’ve all come across a guy like Aadhi in our lives. And I kid you not, I wanted to punch that fellas face through the screen whenever he showed up. Huh, I’m chill. It’s okay :D.
Anyway, coming back. There was this particular scene involving a mobile phone and what followed after when the inevitable happened. Now maybe its just me. Or maybe because he did exactly what I would do / did in that exact same situation. But this scene had so much of an impact to convey what our protagonist was going through. Pain…
Know this lads. Rejection. Maketh. Man.
Hey, its still a laugh riot!
All I’ve written above is just what hit me hard while watching. But this is primarily a joy ride, and you’ll enjoy every scene in this film and come out with a smile. Even an age-old cliche with a soda-can was used as a smokescreen that was used as a callback well into the end. Its one of those films that will depreciate in value with rewatches. It’s going to be difficult not to though!
Oh, shoutout to the album by the way. Been looping it since the weekend!

What can I say? Even in production, Fafa don’t miss! Kudos to Girish and team.
